The Problem

Many people live with a nervous system that is constantly activated.

When the nervous system stays in a stress response, it can lead to:

These reactions are natural nervous system responses which you can learn to regulate.

The Downshift Program helps you understand these responses and learn practical tools to help you do that.

The Downshift Method

The Downshift Program teaches a simple process for restoring nervous system steadiness when stress or emotional reactions appear.

The method includes three parts.

1. The Stoplight

Learn to recognize your nervous system state.

Green – calm and steady
Yellow – activated or reactive
Red – overwhelmed or shut down

Recognizing your state is the first step toward regulation.

2. The Downshift Process

A simple four-step process you can use anytime activation appears.

3. EFT Tapping

EFT is used during the regulation step to calm emotional intensity and reduce nervous system activation.

It helps your body settle so you can stay present and responsive.

This program was created by Christa Bates, Founder of Verity Co LLC and the EFT Advocacy Movement.

Over the past several years, I have explored a wide range of approaches to emotional healing, stress regulation, and trauma awareness while working with individuals navigating overwhelm, anxiety, and difficult emotional patterns.

Through this journey, one thing became very clear: many people are struggling with stress and emotional overload, yet most have never been taught how their nervous system actually works or how to regulate it.

Emotional patterns like fear, anxiety, guilt, and anger are not flaws. They are signals from the nervous system. When people learn how to understand those signals instead of suppressing them, clarity and emotional resilience begin to emerge.

The Downshift Program was created to make these tools more accessible. It provides a structured, self-guided path to help people better understand their emotional patterns, calm their nervous system, and develop lasting emotional awareness.

This program is also part of a larger mission.

I founded the EFT Advocacy Movement to expand awareness and access to practical regulation tools like Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), which have been shown to help people reduce stress and regulate the nervous system.

Because access to these tools is often limited or expensive, my goal is to help make them more widely available.

A portion of every enrollment in this program helps fund the EFT Advocacy Movement, supporting education, advocacy, and scholarship opportunities so more individuals and communities can learn these skills.
